Get on your bike this summer

group of family bikesWhen was the last time you were on a bike? When you were a child or student? Well, they do say that you never forget how to ride a bike and perhaps now is the time to see if it’s true! Cycling is a great low-impact form of exercise, can reduce stress levels, and is a much cheaper and greener form of transport than cars or buses. According to the NHS, someone who weighs around 80 kg can burn more than 650 calories in an hour as well as toning their bottom half! You can find a brilliant starters guide to cycling on the NHS website.

And it’s never been a better time to start cycling in the Reading area. Wokingham Borough Council are running lots of different cycle schemes this summer. There are organised women only cycle rides, adult beginners support and family cycle rides happening throughout the summer. Check out their website for more details. Don’t own a bike? Why not try out one Reading’s new ReadyBikes. You can sign up for the year and use them to ride to work, or just hire one for the day and try it out. Find out more at the ReadyBike website.
